SOAR coordinates a series of professional development events to help seniors transition to "real life." Life After IUPUI is a series of seminars on life after graduation. The events — online networking, professional etiquette, financial literacy and budgeting, and relocation — hone skills in the areas most important to soon-to-be young professionals.
Java with a Jag promotes informal interaction between students and alumni. At this event, an alumnus sits down to coffee with a small group of students and shares his/her story while answering individual questions from each student. It’s an event that is open to all IUPUI students with coffee and pastries provided. Students learn about careers they are interested in, and the path alumni have taken to get there. Rather than just listening to a lecture, students ask the questions they want to know the answers to and gain advice that is relevant to them.
First held in 2009, the Regatta quickly became an IUPUI tradition, strengthening and enhancing campus spirit and pride. Connecting campus and community, the Regatta is a weeklong family-friendly celebration in September that culminates in a canoe race and community festival. It’s also a scholarship fundraiser that benefits IUPUI students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and academic performance.
SOAR participates in the IU Blood Donor Challenge by hosting blood drives on campus. SOAR participates in many service events around campus including IUPUI Day of Caring and Jagathon and also volunteers for community service events such as Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Race for the Cure.
The IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations recognizes the top 100 students on campus every year. Top 100 students excel in scholastic achievement, collegiate, and co-curricular activities, as well as civic/community service. SOAR helps with the application process and planning of the program, as well as attending and staffing the Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner.
Meet the Senior recognizes some of the most exemplary seniors at IUPUI. Recognition includes an interview and short video clip of seniors that is posted to the SOAR Website and social media sites every week. It's a way to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the seniors and to also inform and inspire other students to greatness. Anyone can nominate a senior to be interviewed or nominate yourself!
